Replace background with Pixelz and Photoroom API (Pro and Enterprise plans)

Overview

The Photoroom AI Background Replacement is a powerful feature that allows you to remove and replace backgrounds in your images directly from the Pixelz Order Detail page. Designed for Professional and Enterprise customers, it offers seamless creative control with intuitive integration.

Who can use this feature

The Photoroom background tool is available to:

• Professional and Enterprise customers
• Orders that are Ready for Download
• Image formats: PNG, JPEG, or WEBP

If you’re using Solo, you’ll see an option to upgrade your plan when trying to use the tool.

How to add an AI background

1. Start from your order page

Open the Orders page and filter the orders that are “Ready for download”

2. Select the order

Click “View” to open the order you would like to edit

3. Click “Add AI Background”

Once in the order, right click on the image you would like to change the background to. Click “Add AI Background”.

This option appears under media actions for supported image types.

4. Connect your Photoroom account

If it’s your first time:

• You’ll be asked to paste your API key from Photoroom.
• After connecting, you’ll be ready to start creating.

Don’t have a Photoroom account? Set up your Photoroom account.

How to describe your new background

In the pop-up window:

• You’ll see your image on the right.
• Type a description of the new background you'd like on the left
  (for example: “clean white studio background with soft shadows”). Use the best practices for prompts guide to get the best results
• Click Generate Background (this uses 1 credit).

You’ll see a quick loading screen—then your new image will appear in the Order Detail page.

Where your new images go

All generated images are saved in the Order Detail page.
They’re automatically named like this:
OriginalImageName_AI_PR
Or, if you make multiple versions:
OriginalImageName_AI_PR_1, _2, etc.

You can:

• View the image
• Download it
• Delete it
• Copy the file name

All with a simple right-click menu.

How credits work

• Each image generation usually costs 1 credit.
• You can check your available credits in generation pop up or directly in your Photoroom account

Note: On the Basic Photoroom plan, one generation will cost more than 1 credit.

What to do if something doesn’t work

Trying to edit unsupported files?
You won’t see the “Add AI Background” option for file types like PSD or TIF.

Trying to re-edit an AI image?
The tool only works on your original images—not AI-edited ones.

Seeing an error message?
These are the most common:

• “Too many requests” → Wait and try again
• “Check your plan limits” → You might need to upgrade
• “Payment required” → You may be out of credits
   

Tips for getting the best results

• Use clear, descriptive prompts for the best backgrounds.
• Make sure your images are in supported formats (PNG, JPEG, WEBP).
• Check your credits before hitting generate.
