How to Switch to The New Encrypted FTP (November 2020)

Why FTPS should be the only choice

At Pixelz, we have launched a new FTP service that is more secure for our clients, requiring explicit FTPS (encrypted FTP).

Non-encrypted FTP services are outdated and insecure, and considering how important our customers' assets are to you and us, we will no longer support non-encrypted FTP connections.  

Explicit FTPS is already the default on most FTP clients such as FileZilla, but this will not automatically upgrade if you set it up a long time ago.

How to easily switch to explicit FTPS

Good news, it's likely literally as simple as checking a box on your FTP client to make the switch to explicit FTPS, often written as “FTP over TLS (Explicit)”

It’s typically a setting you’ll see labeled “Encryption” or something similar in the General Settings section of your FTP client. This is what it looks like on the most commonly used FTP clients:

FileZilla

Cyberduck

Transmit

Remember to also update the hostname

To be able to log in after the switch, you will also have to change the new FTP hostname to ftps.pixelz.com.
