Overview
Colorways allow you to create different color versions of your products that are submitted to Pixelz. You can create a Color-change-only order, or color versions in an order with a specification applied.
How Do I Access Colorways?
Colorways can be accessed and enabled in the dashboard of your account, in the Extension Store on the menu on the left of your screen. You can also sign up for a 14-day trial to try out all the cool features of Colorways.
* Please remember to cancel the trial before it ends if you do not wish to subscribe to Colorways.
How Much Does It Cost?
The Colorways extension is an additional $25 per month added onto the Professional plan subscription, or an additional $19 per month if an annual commitment is made.
The cost for one color version is $1. If you would like to have 3 color versions of a product, the cost for that will be $3.
Step-by-step Guide
1. Upload Color References to your Color Library
Before you upload a Color Change order, you need to add your color references to the Color Library, so that when you place the order, you can easily apply the color references to the images in your order.
When adding a new reference to your Color Library, you will see that there are 3 sections: Reference Image, RGB Color, and Texture.
For your images to be sent to the correct step in production, you would need to define which section your references belong to and add them to the correct one among these three.
- Reference Image is used for Color Matching and Color Change
- RGB Color is used for Color Matching and Color Change
- Texture is used for mostly Texture Change
Once your Color Library contains your color references, simply upload the images as per usual.
2. Upload Your Images
2.1. How To Upload Images for a Color-Change-only order?
- Click "Orders" on the menu on the left of your screen ---> "Create New"
- Click "Continue" on the Color Change option
- Upload your images ---> "Continue"
This way, your images will have only Colorways applied, without any other editing.
2.2. How to upload images for a Color Change order with a specification applied?
- Click "Orders" on the menu on the left of your screen ---> "Create New"
- Click "Continue" on the "Direct Upload" option
- Select a specification
- Upload your images ---> "Continue"
- Right-click on the images that need to be color changed ---> "Colorways" ---> "Make Color Change"
- Now click the "Image Editing" drop-down menu that just appeared ---> "Color Change"
This way, your images will have both Colorways and the settings in your specification applied.
3. Create Color Versions
Once the images are uploaded for your Color Change order, it's time to create color versions.
-
Hit “Add Color Version” to create a new color version. If you would like your products to have more than 1 color version, please create a corresponding number of color versions.
- On the “Add Color Version” dialog, keep the suggested color version name or create a new one -->
Determine which file name rule should be applied with the following options: Replace / Prepend / Append --> "Save"
4. Add References to the Color Versions
- Select the images to be color changed ---> Hit Spacebar
- Click on “Add” in the Color Change box in the right-hand panel
- Select a reference from the displayed list
- Then switch to another color version (if any) and select its references.
- You can switch between the images you selected using the left and right arrow keys
5. Specify Which Parts Need to be Color Changed
Once the references are added, it is very important that you tell us exactly which parts of your product need to be color changed.
- You can brief the color change of a specific area on the image by hitting the marker icon
- The marker now shows up on the image and can be placed on a specific area to be color changed
- Confirm the placement of the marker by hitting “Save”
- Then switch to another color version (if any) and place its markers
- You can switch between the images you selected using the left and right arrow keys
And there you have it! Your Color Change order now has its images, references for each color version, and a detailed color change guide (or we would like to call it a "marker map"), and is now ready to be submitted.

Colorways Limits
In Colorways, the Texture Replacement feature has some limits, meaning there are some specific cases where we will not be able to perform the technique due to the complexity of the texture.
For example, we're not able to perform Texture Replacement if the original texture has complex patterns:
The reason is that it is very difficult to remove the original patterns without flattening the texture, so the result would look unnatural.
Or it is also not possible to replace a texture if the reference is too small and does not reflect its true size compared to the product, etc.
The complexity level and ability can be defined case by case, so if you're not quite sure about a specific Texture Replacement job's ability, please email us at professional@pixelz.com and we'll be more than happy to help!
Turnaround Time for Colorways Orders
The turnaround time for Colorways orders is 24 hours instead of "9 AM next morning" like other standard Professional orders.
Also, Colorways orders cannot be expedited for a 3-hour turnaround due to the complexity of the skills used.
